Frequently asked questions.
Is Premier Soccer Coaching Academy a soccer club affiliated with the CMSA?
No, Premier Soccer Coaching Academy is an independent academy that focuses on performance and skills development. Its purpose is to prepare children both physically and mentally to perform to the best of their abilities in their current clubs. If this is your child's first time playing soccer, Premier Soccer will equip them with the basic skills and mindset needed to participate in a competitive club in the future.
How does the subscription format work?
Premier Soccer Coaching Academy offers a subscription format for all of our programs. If, for any reason, you are unable to commit to the full length of the program or if your child needs to take a break from soccer for a certain period, you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time. To cancel or pause your subscription, simply email admin@premier-soccer.ca before your renewal date, and we will process your request.
Do they have competitive games?
Since Premier Soccer is not affiliated with the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA), children do not play games against other clubs or academies on weekends. However, the academy’s practices include specific times for play, allowing children and the coach to identify and work on individual strengths and areas for improvement. We strive to get drop-in games as well.
How would my child benefit from Premier Academy if he/she is already playing with a club??
Soccer is a sport that is rapidly growing in our province, not only because it is a well-rounded activity but also due to its promotion of diversity. As the sport expands and the city faces a shortage of facilities, many existing clubs are operating beyond their capacity. This often leads to a focus on management rather than on the development of the children. While some kids may already be well-rounded athletes, others lack the opportunity to thrive, as clubs may not provide a personalized approach. Premier Soccer emphasizes small group sizes to ensure that each child receives the attention and support they need to succeed.
Is the premier soccer fundamental program different from another introductory program offered at a regular soccer club?
IYes, some of the introductory programs offered by soccer clubs affiliated with the CMSA are designed for children who want to begin their soccer journey or play recreationally. These programs aim to identify and invite skilled children to competitive teams in the future. However, they do not fully prepare children to compete nor provide less skilled players the opportunity to develop basic techniques for successful team participation. As a result, these programs often have gaps in techniques, skills, and mindset development.
Premier Soccer is aware of this problem and offers the “Fundamentals” and “Empower Growth” Programs which prepare the child to become part of a competitive team in a smoother way. Our program gives all the children the opportunity to learn, try their best and decide whether or not they want to move to a Competitive team in the future.
A child might be physically ready to compete but not emotionally. Clubs must be aware of this situation as occasions arise when the child encounters their first season and feels overwhelmed by the demand of the team.
Can I register my child to practice just once a week?
Yes, Premier Soccer Academy offers the option for children to practice once a week. This option is particularly beneficial for those who are already attending three practices at their own club during the week, especially for age groups U11-13.
However, we strongly encourage practices twice a week for children who have the availability and desire to improve at a faster pace. At Premier Soccer, we believe that “the more time a child spends with the ball at their feet, the better player they will become.”
Where will the practices take place?
The locations for practices, both indoor and outdoor, are still to be determined. However, they will be located on the northwest side of Calgary. Spring practices will be held indoors, while we will transition to outdoor practices in the summer.
At what age is my child ready to start soccer?
Premier Soccer encourages children aged 4 and up to begin their soccer journey. Soccer is a well-rounded sport that teaches coordination, control, discipline, and teamwork in a fun environment. Notably, the same part of the brain responsible for coordination is also tied to the decision-making process. Therefore, young children can start developing skills that will benefit multiple areas of their lives from an early age.
